The Hotel Des Balances is located in a former Guild Hall in the heart of Lucerne's Old Town. The historical building is decorated by attractive facade paintings. Inviting, comfortable rooms offer views of the Chapel Bridge, the Jesuit Church and the Weinmarkt square. The hotel restaurant, Balances, with a beautiful terrace onto the river Reuss, is noted for its fine Swiss cooking: imaginative and market-fresh.


Our rooms are individually designed in either classic or contemporary style, with great attention to detail. Many river facing rooms have their own balcony or terrace with wonderful views onto the famous Chappel Bridge and the Swiss Alps.


A buffet breakfast is served from 07:00 to 11:00. There is also a continental breakfast and an à la carte breakfast menu. Restaurant Balances: Our Gault-Millau Award winning Culinary Artist and his crew, anxiously await the opportunity to spoil you at lunch (12:00 to 14:00) or dinner (18:00 to 22:00) with classical French cuisine. Alternatively, let us surprise you with a market-fresh creation inspired by the season. Terrace: Where else can you sit back, relax and take in the view of the magnificent Jesuit Church and our infamous wooden Chapel Bridge with its monumental Water Tower all at once? Bar/Lounge: At first sight, our beautiful wooden bar (open 07:00 until 00:30) calls to mind the bow of a boat about to set sail. A popular spot any day of the week with an ambience of uncomplicated, casual elegance.

How to get by car from direction Zurich to our hotel: Lucerne is already marked in Zurich. Follow the green sings (Highway). You pass the towns “Adliswil”, Langnau“ and „Sihlbrugg“. Keep always the direction Lucerne. Take the exit „Luzern Zentrum“. Go onto the right hand most lane after exiting the tunnel. Turn right (marker says “Gütsch”), stay on the right lane. At the traffic light turn right and drive across the bridge “Geissmattbrücke”. Just after the bridge turn right and drive through a small tower which is built across the road (St. Karlistrasse) . Drive along the river until the wooden bridge (left curve in the road, wooden bridge on the right). At the wooden bridge turn right (look for brown hotel markers) and you will come onto a square with a lot of parked cars (Mühlenplatz). Drive across the square. Ignore the no entry signs (you are allowed to drive in as hotel guests) and turn right immediately after the square. Second road left and then onto the Weinmarkt. The HOTEL DES BALANCES is on the right.

The hotel's 12th century veneer is framed by iron fronted balconies that wind down to a riverside cafe. Inside, the decorative interior includes the Gourmet Restaurant La Vague, casual Bistro, Piano Bar and an array of intimate meeting rooms ideal for seminars.
